God's Love Questioned

Lord, I'm struggling with the feeling of Your personal love for me. I can accept Your universal love for the world, but how can I know You love me as an individual when I'm so weak and undeserving?

The night I accepted Your salvation, the minister read John 3:16, and I knew it included me, but now I have doubts. I don't feel Your love.

"Doubting Child Of My Heart, you're like many of My growing children. You expect to continue to feel that exhilaration you felt when you first experienced My love. Discovering the vastness of My love is a lifelong process.

"Most of My children are slow to grasp My unconditional love. You tend to think you have to earn My love because you equate Me with your human parents. You had to live up to certain standards to please them. That was a part of your disciplinary training. Your parent's love was conditional, just as is all human love. But I love you simply because I am love. It is My nature to love.

"I, who made you in My image, love you infinitely. You are My precious redeemed child. Of course you are weak. So are all My children. I love you no less than if all your efforts succeeded. My heart of compassion always reaches out to you. I want you to rest in My love. Allow My love to sink deeply into your heart.

"Your value is not based on anything you accomplish but upon who I am. The world measures your value by your achievements. I never do. Nothing can quench the fire of My love for you.

"As soon as you awaken every morning, say to yourself, 'God loves me. I am His very own child. I am valuable to Him. He accepts me just as I am. He chose me. He adopted me. Nothing can separate me from His love.' Meditate on those thoughts.

"You may feel foolish at first. Never mind. Meditating on those words every morning will fix them in your mind. Something within you may want to deny what you say. Ignore that voice. You are agreeing with My Word.

"Every night before you fall asleep read Paul's prayer for the Ephesians, but personalize it as follows...


'I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen me with power through His spirit in my inner being, so Christ may dwell in my heart through faith. And I pray that I, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge — that I may be filled to the measure of all the fullness to God.'
